Projets de recherche actifs

Le programme de recherche du Dr Van Luu-The est concentré sur l'élucidation des voies de formation et de dégradation tissulaire spécifique des androgènes et des estrogènes dans le but d'identifier les meilleurs cibles qui permettent de contrôler la biosynthèse des androgènes et des estrogènes actifs et dont les meilleurs traitements pour les maladies hormono-sensibles comme les cancers du sein et de la prostate. Il a purifié et cloné plusieurs enzymes dont les 3β-hydroxystéroides déshydrogénases (3β-HSD) types 1 et 2, les 17β-HSD types 1, 5, 7, 12 et 15, les 5α-réductases, les 3α-HSD et les sulfotransférases.

Les recherches en cours se portent sur:

  • la caractérisation fonctionnelle de la 17β-HSD type 12 (projet subventionné par l'IRSC);
  •  la 5α-réductase type 3 (projet subventionné par la Fondation du CHUQ);
  • les déterminants cellulaires et hormonales du profil d'obésité type masculin chez la femme (projet subventionné par l'IRSC en collaboration avec le Dr André Tchernof).
